Inspection and diagnosis

Why does every A/C problem start with inspection?
Different faults can cause similar symptoms. We inspect and diagnose the system before recommending regas, repairs or replacement parts. You do not need to diagnose the vehicle yourself.
Why do you charge for inspection and diagnosis when some workshops offer a free check?

You’re paying for specialist time, proper testing and a clear explanation of what your vehicle needs. A free check can differ in scope, so it helps to compare what is actually included.

Our 24-point inspection is designed to investigate the cause of your A/C problem before recommending a regas or repairs.

  • Specialist expertise. Our qualified car air conditioning technicians diagnose and repair A/C systems every day.
  • Hydrogen leak and pressure testing. We use tracer gas and specialist equipment to help locate small leaks. The inspection fee covers the testing materials, equipment and time involved.
  • A structured 24-point assessment. We assess system operation, components and cooling performance to help establish the work required and prepare an informed repair quote.
  • Support from start to finish. Our team reviews your concerns, carries out the assessment and explains the findings and recommended next steps.

Thorough diagnosis matters to the work we stand behind. Our regas service includes a 12-month gas warranty, subject to its terms. Inspection is the starting point for deciding whether the system is ready for a regas or needs repairs first. The gas warranty applies to the regas service, not an inspection alone.

Our experience is backed by more than 1,100 reviews for Mt Gravatt and 500 for our former Geebung workshop, as well as work entrusted to us by dealerships and smash repairers.

A regas restores refrigerant; it does not repair a leak or failed component. Finding the cause first helps avoid paying for work that does not address the problem.

See everything included in the 24-point inspection or view current inspection and regas prices. Regas package prices include the inspection, so it is not added again on top.

Can I book just a regas?
You can tell us you suspect the system needs refrigerant, but we still start with inspection and diagnosis. A regas does not repair a leak. If a leak is found, it needs to be addressed before we recharge the system.
What happens during the inspection?
We check system operation, inspect components and investigate the reported symptoms, including leak testing where applicable. Read the full 24-point inspection breakdown.
What happens if you find a fault?
We explain the findings and recommended work, and provide pricing before proceeding. Repairs, parts and regas are separate from the inspection starting price.
Does warm air always mean a leak?
No. Refrigerant loss is one possible cause, but electrical, airflow, compressor and control faults can also affect cooling. Testing helps distinguish them.
How much does inspection or regas cost?
Prices depend on your vehicle, refrigerant and whether it has Single or Dual Air. See current inspection and regas pricing. Regas packages include inspection; repairs and additional diagnosis are quoted separately.

Servicing and aftercare

What is included in a car A/C service?
The appropriate work depends on the condition and diagnosis of your system. See servicing information and speak with us about what your vehicle needs.
How often should I have the system checked?
Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s guidance and arrange an inspection if cooling, airflow, noise or smell changes. Repeated refrigerant loss needs investigation rather than routine top-ups. Read our aftercare guidance.
Can I service the refrigerant system myself?
Refrigerant work needs suitable equipment, training and any licences required for the refrigerant and work involved. Contact a suitably qualified technician rather than attempting to release or recharge refrigerant yourself.
Who carries out the work?
Speak with our workshop team about your vehicle and the technician qualifications relevant to the work. Jack Frost specialises in automotive air conditioning inspection, diagnosis and repair.
