R134a refrigerant service

Car A/C Regas Brisbane

A proper regas is more than adding refrigerant. We first check why the system is low and whether it can be safely and legally recharged.

Our workshop service combines a 24-point inspection, hydrogen leak testing, refrigerant recovery, vacuum testing and recharge to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification.

01Inspect

Confirm refrigerant type and system condition.

02Recover

Safely remove the existing refrigerant.

03Test

Pressure, leak and vacuum test the system.

04Recharge

Refill to specification and verify performance.

When a regas is appropriate

The system needs the correct charge and no unresolved leak.

Refrigerant does not get “used up” like fuel. When a system is low, we need to consider normal gradual loss, leakage and the condition of the components that contain and circulate the refrigerant.

If the system passes its inspection and leak tests, it can be recharged with confidence. If it does not pass, we explain the fault and the repair required before proceeding.

Why diagnosis comes first

What the service includes

Our R134a regas process

Each stage protects the system, confirms it is suitable for regassing and checks that it performs correctly once recharged.

01

Identify and inspect

We confirm the refrigerant type and check the system before any gas is added.

4 checks
  • Identify the type of refrigerant in the system
  • Check the compressor, condenser and A/C hoses
  • Check visible wiring harnesses and electrical operation
  • Assess whether the receiver-drier requires replacement
02

Recover and leak test

Existing refrigerant is recovered before the system is pressure and vacuum tested.

5 checks
  • Recover the existing refrigerant from the system
  • Pressure test with nitrogen and hydrogen trace gas
  • Check common leak points across the A/C system
  • Vacuum the system with a two-stage high-flow pump
  • Confirm the system holds vacuum
03

Recharge and verify

The correct refrigerant charge is added to specification and system performance is checked.

4 checks
  • Recharge with R134a refrigerant to vehicle specifications
  • Test operating pressures and cooling performance
  • Check condenser fan and blower fan operation
  • Measure the final vent temperature

Note: the exact process can vary by vehicle and system design. Receiver-drier replacement and repairs are additional where required.

Leak testing before refrigerant

We check whether the system can hold its charge.

Before a regas, we pressurise the system with a highly detectable nitrogen and hydrogen trace gas and inspect the evaporator, compressor, condenser, hoses and other common leak points.

Protect the repair decision

Testing helps avoid adding refrigerant to a system with an unresolved fault.

Verify the result

After recharge, we check pressures, fans, operation and final vent temperature.

If a leak is found, we provide repair guidance before the vehicle is regassed.

Included in the service

What your R134a service covers

  • 24-point A/C inspection
  • R134a refrigerant recovery and recharge
  • Nitrogen and hydrogen leak testing
  • Vacuum and system-hold testing
  • Final pressure, fan and vent-temperature checks
  • 12-month regas warranty

We confirm the refrigerant specified for your vehicle before work begins. Prices are starting prices and may vary by vehicle and system condition. Repairs and replacement parts are quoted separately.

Own a newer vehicle?

Your vehicle may use R1234yf refrigerant.

R1234yf is common in many later-model vehicles and requires compatible equipment and service procedures. We confirm the refrigerant type before service.

If the system does not pass

We identify the next step before adding refrigerant.

A failed leak, pressure or component check means the system needs further diagnosis or repair.

  • Refrigerant leak
  • Compressor or component fault
  • Electrical or control problem
  • Airflow or fan fault

Common questions

Car A/C regas FAQs

What to know before booking a refrigerant service for your vehicle.

View all FAQs
How do I know whether my car needs an A/C regas?

Warm air or reduced cooling can indicate low refrigerant, but those symptoms can also be caused by a leak, airflow problem, electrical fault or failed component. An inspection determines whether a regas is the appropriate next step.

Do you check for leaks before regassing the system?

Yes. Our service includes pressure and leak testing. If a leak is found, the fault needs to be repaired before the system can be legally regassed.

What is included in the R134a regas service?

The service includes a 24-point inspection, recovery of existing refrigerant, nitrogen and hydrogen leak testing, vacuum testing, recharge to the vehicle specification and final performance checks.

Does the regas include a warranty?

When the system passes the required checks and is regassed, the R134a service includes a 12-month gas warranty. Terms and conditions apply.

Does my newer vehicle use R1234yf refrigerant?

Many vehicles produced from around 2015 onward use R1234yf, particularly later-model European vehicles. Vehicle age alone is not conclusive, so we confirm the specified refrigerant before service.

Can you simply top up the refrigerant?

We do not treat unexplained refrigerant loss as a routine top-up. The system must be assessed so a leak or component fault is not hidden by adding more gas.
